Yang WANG is a computational media artist, a researcher and a software engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. Along with his partner Zhenzhen Qi, he has formed the research-based art collective, zzyw, which produces text, software, and simulations as instruments for examining the impact of computing. Their work has been featured at several notable institutions, including the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, the Knockdown Center in New York, and the National Museum of China. In the past decade, Wang has worked with the LAB at Rockwell Group, artist Ian Cheng, and the media art platform OUTPUT. He has also been a member or resident artist of NEW INC, Babycastles, Pioneer Works and EYEBEAM.
Throughout Wang’s practice, computation serves as a tool for art-making and the subject of study. His work utilizes simulation to recreate conditions for critical examination.
Yang Wang holds a BA from the University of Science & Technology, Beijing (USTB) in Artistic Design and graduated from the Interactive Telecommunication Program (ITP), New York University, with a MPS in 2014.
